Tomorrow, Business Day’s subscribers get their April issue of WANTED. Editor GARY COTTERELL shares a few highlights from the magazine:
I’ve been doing a lot of one-handed clapping recently, mostly of the rather pathetic patting of the thigh kind. However, it shouldn’t be read as that sarcastic clap in lieu of full applause when you can’t find it in yourself to justify raising the other limb.
It is because of a recent operation to my left wrist that I am forced to clap one-handed and to type like a woodpecker. I’m not seeking any sympathy — I have enough of that — but it does assist in explaining why this letter is brief. In a wonderful Zen, koan teachings kind of way though, it has forced my hand, so to speak, to think more carefully about everything, and the way I do it. All the more considered about self and surroundings, typing unnecessary emails, and of course, more aware of how so many folk go through life so totally unconscious. For those who don’t, here are my one-handed claps for the month:

For those who don’t, here are my one-handed claps for the month:
- Design with a conscience: I love the Perdita Chair at A.D. Schwarz for its clean, classic lines, comfort (yes) and sustainable manufacturing practices.
- Have more fun and be playful: the Crazy theme interpreted through Vincent Gregoire’s installation for Maison et Objet and Michelle Constant’s column on creativity.
- Time out: whether heading to a flash spa on Capri or in Camps Bay, treat yourself like a star.
- Listen. Have more tea with friends and other great people: the ever-inspiring McGowans and Nadine Gordimer, I need say more?
